Across climate, artificial intelligence, technology, infrastructure, and other major economic drivers, the same underlying systems influence who has access to information, capital, contracts, relationships, ownership, and decision-making. JCG examines how those systems reproduce economic disparities, what emerging opportunities and risks they create, and what institutions can do differently to expand access and participation.

Who’s Making the Money?
Who’s Making the Money? examined how longstanding inequities are being carried forward into the burgeoning clean and green economy, leaving many Black and Brown businesses without equitable access to its capital, contracts, information, relationships, and opportunities.
Drawing on research, data, and promising practices, the position brief identified strategies for government, philanthropy, policymakers, business-support organizations, and private-sector actors to expand Black and Brown business participation and economic opportunity.

Those insights gave rise to Future Wave.
Future Wave
JCG developed Future Wave to examine how Black and Brown businesses in Atlanta and Houston experience and navigate the clean and green economy—and how regional market conditions, capital, contracting, training, technical assistance, policy, and relationships influence their participation.
Future Wave identified emerging opportunities in the clean and green sector and the ways those opportunities remain out of reach for many Black and Brown businesses because they are difficult to recognize, navigate, and access.
The findings show that addressing disparities in participation requires programs, but programs alone are not enough. Information, capital, contracts, training, technical assistance, relationships, policy, and market demand must also be aligned around the needs and pathways of businesses and communities.
